Craft beer meets Nordic cuisine at the Störtebeker Elbphilharmonie restaurant and food concept
The restaurant and food areas within Hamburg’s symbolic new landmark opened its doors on three different levels. The name says it all with this culinary concept: be it “Deck & Deli” on the 8th floor, “Taste & Shop” on the 6th or “Beer & Dine” on the 5th floor – in all areas not only can visitors to the Elbphilharmonie look forward to stylish, top-quality decor; they can also enjoy carefully selected brewer’s specialities, choice Nordic cuisine and cultural highlights. The operator is the Störtebeker Elbphilharmonie GmbH organisation under the supervision of General Manager Julian Münder, a joint venture between the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur brewery of Stralsund and the east group, Hamburg.
“Beer & Dine” is the catchphrase of the restaurant with an adjoining bar, accommodating a total of 220 people. This is where innovative Nordic cuisine and culture is complemented with a large variety of exclusive brewer’s specialities from the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur. The brewery’s range currently features no fewer than fifteen different specialities. During daytime visitors can order native dishes and small menus with ultra-fresh ingredients from a small, seasonal menu. Before or after a concert at the Elbphilharmonie, head chef Sebastian Brugger serves dishes that feature top-class Nordic cuisine. Visitors reach the restaurant via the huge escalator “Tube”, taking them from the entrance lobby right up to the entrance door. Restaurant visitors who book a table online at the Störtebeker Elbphilharmonie website automatically receive free Plaza tickets attached to the e-mail confirmation.
In the tasting area at the “Taste & Shop” venue beer lovers taste vintage beers as well as the various Störtebeker craft beer specialities on tap. As pioneers of a new beer culture, Störtebeker Elbphilharmonie spoils its guests by combining international, premium award-winning brewer’s specialities and beer cocktails with culinary highlights in a highly creative way.” Tasting sessions are held several times a day under the guidance of specifically trained beer sommeliers, accompanied by matching sweet and savoury snacks. Whoever wants to take a keepsake home finds plenty of options available from the extensive range of Störtebeker souvenirs.
Visitors enjoy a unique panoramic view at the “Deck & Deli” at the Plaza. Alongside a changing selection of exclusive Störtebeker craft beer, the “Deck & Deli” offers a great variety of refreshing beverages, wine and champagne, a wide range of coffees, savoury sandwiches and ice creams.
In order to match with the design of the Elbphilharmonie and the corporate design of the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur brewery, the interior design creates a warm and intimate atmosphere by using solid materials, inspired by something between Nordic savoir vivre and modern craft beer culture. The Störtebeker venues at the Elbphilharmonie offer the perfect culinary experience to match the pleasure of first-class music: first-class craft beer specialities, culinary delights as well as the most beautiful view at the Elbe river and the port of Hamburg makes this an absolutely unforgettable experience.
The companies behind the project
Two strong partners have teamed up in a joint venture for a new gastronomic concept: the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur brewery, Stralsund, and the east group, Hamburg, have pooled their skills and expertise to create three restaurant and food facilities within the Elbphilharmonie to define Hamburg’s new landmark in terms of its cuisine. With over 800 years’ brewing tradition in the Hanseatic town of Stralsund, the Störtebeker Braumanufaktur has dedicated itself to handcrafted brewer’s products with the very best ingredients, genuine character and northern German authenticity. Special brewing malts, individual yeast creations and unique recipes produce the unmistakable flavours of Atlantik-Ale, Baltik-Ale, rye-wheat beer specialties and 16 other brewer’s specialties.
The east group has been a fixed element of Hamburg’s scene restaurant and hotel trade and is known, perhaps like no other location, for individual top-flight cuisine coupled with excellent hospitality with a high lifestyle factor. Apart from the design hotel cum restaurant, the east cosmos also extends to include the coast by east in Hamburg’s HafenCity district as well as the “clouds – Heaven’s Bar & Kitchen” inside the Dancing Towers.
